1. Open your windows.
This is a very Italian action. Italians love to air out their homes, even in the dead of winter, windows are always opened. The extended light will make your home glow.
2. Cover your couch or a big chair with fresh white linens.
It is amazing how this will lighten up the
room. If you don’t have anything
big enough you can use a curtain or sheets taped together in the back.
Change your art, even if the pieces that are not hung
perfectly for the wall, just switch pieces around. Take some off the walls and lean them up on the floor with a
big vase of flowers near by.
Create a vignette leaning framed photographs in front of mirrors (this will add depth) also
leaning on top of a dresser or credenza.
It will feel like you went shopping for new art.
4. Bring someone breakfast in bed.
This will make your home pretty with sleepy smiles.

I made this splendid display with
wildflowers, river stones and fig branches.
The fig leaves are brilliant green, they
make me happy the moment I walk in the room. The yellow wildflowers actually have a crazy metallic sheen
to them.

6. Create something with a little humor or surprise.
Here I hung a jar
of flowers attached to a screw with sheer ribbon and wire. A stack of books
and a cappuccino are always a slice of heaven.

7. Make a wreath out of ribbons.
Whatever you have around, you
can’t go wrong. If you don’t have
wire, you can use an old wire hanger, or just a paper shopping bag rolled up to
form the base of the wreath. I
did this in about three minutes, really messy. If the rose dries well, later I spay on some clear acrylic.
